This is my commandment, that you love one another, just as I
have loved you. Greater love has no one than this: that one lay down his life
for his friends.
John 15:12-13
If anyone wishes to come after me, he must deny himself, and
take up his cross and follow Me. For whoever wishes to save his life will lose
it, but whoever loses his life for my sake and the gospel's will save it.
Mark 8:34-35
If anyone comes to me, and does not hate his own father and
mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life,
he cannot be my disciple. Whoever does not carry his own cross and come after
me cannot be my disciple. For which one of you, when he wants to build a tower,
does not first sit down and calculate the cost to see if he has enough to
complete it? Otherwise, when he has laid a foundation and is not able to
finish, all who observe it begin to ridicule him, saying, 'This man began to
build and was not able to finish.' Or what king, when he sets out to meet
another king in battle, will not first sit down and consider whether he is
strong enough with ten thousand men to encounter the one coming against him
with twenty thousand? Or else, while the other is still far away, he sends a
delegation and asks for terms of peace. So then, none of you can be my disciple
who does not give up all his own possessions.
Luke 14:26-33
Truly I say to you, there is no one who has left house or
brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or farms, for My sake and
for the gospel's sake, but that he will receive a hundred times as much now in
the present age, houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and
farms, along with persecutions; and in the age to come, eternal life. But many
who are first will be last, and the last, first."
Mark 10:29-31
The kingdom of heaven is like a treasure hidden in the
field, which a man found and hid again; and from joy over it he goes and sells
all that he has and buys that field. Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a
merchant seeking fine pearls, and upon finding one pearl of great value, he
went and sold all that he had and bought it.
Matthew 13:44-46
Truly, truly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls
into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit.
He who loves his life loses it, and he who hates his life in this world will
keep it to life eternal. If anyone serves Me, he must follow Me; and where I
am, there My servant will be also; if anyone serves Me, the Father will honor
him.
John 12:24-26
If anyone else has a mind to put confidence in the flesh, I
far more: circumcised the eighth day, of the nation of Israel, of the tribe of
Benjamin, a Hebrew of Hebrews; as to the Law, a Pharisee; as to zeal, a persecutor of the church; as to
the righteousness which is in the Law, found blameless. But whatever things were gain to me, those
things I have counted as loss for the sake of Christ. More than that, I count all things to be loss
in view of the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I
have suffered the loss of all things, and count them but sewage so that I may
gain Christ.
Philippians 3:4-8
In everything we commend ourselves as servants of God: in much endurance, in afflictions, in
hardships, in distresses, in beatings, in imprisonments, in tumults, in labors,
in sleeplessness, in hunger, in purity, in knowledge, in patience, in kindness,
in the Holy Spirit, in genuine love, in the word of truth, in the power of God;
by the weapons of righteousness for the right hand and the left, by glory and
dishonor, by evil report and good report; regarded as deceivers and yet true; as
unknown yet well-known, as dying yet behold, we live; as punished yet not put
to death, as sorrowful yet always rejoicing, as poor yet making many rich, as
having nothing yet possessing all things.
2 Corinthians 6:4-10
Only through many afflictions will we enter the kingdom of
God.
Acts 14:22
