No one can serve
two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be
devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth.
Matthew 6:24
Faith is in Jesus
Jesus heard that
the priests had put the former blind man out, and finding him, He said,
"Do you believe in the Son
of Man?" He answered, "Who is He, Lord, that I may believe in Him?" Jesus said to him, "You have both seen
Him, and He is the one who is talking with you." And he said, "Lord,
I believe." And he worshiped
Him.
John 9:35-38
Faith accepts the call of the master
Jesus said,
"A man was giving a big dinner, and he invited many; and at the dinner
hour he sent his slave to say to those who had been invited, 'Come; for
everything is ready now.' But they all alike began to make excuses. The first
one said to him, 'I have bought a piece of land and I need to go out and look
at it; please consider me excused.' Another one said, 'I have bought five yoke
of oxen, and I am going to try them out; please consider me excused.' Another
one said, 'I have married a wife, and for that reason I cannot come.' And the
slave came back and reported
this to his master. Then the head of the household became angry and said to his
slave, 'Go out at once into the streets and lanes of the city and bring in here
the poor and crippled and blind and lame.' And the slave said, 'Master, what
you commanded has been done, and still there is room.' And the master said to
the slave, 'Go out into the highways and along the hedges, and compel them to come in, so that my house may
be filled. For I tell you, none of those men who were invited shall taste of my
dinner.' If anyone comes to Me, and does
not hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and
sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be My disciple. Whoever does not
carry his own cross and come after Me cannot be My disciple.
Luke 14:16-27
Faith recognizes the master
There was the
true Light which, coming into the world, enlightens every man. He was in the
world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him. He
came to His own, and those who were His own did not receive Him. But as many as
received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His
name, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will
of man, but of God.
John 1:9-13
Faith trusts in the master in difficult circumstances
About midnight
Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns of praise to God, and the
prisoners were listening to them; and suddenly there came a great earthquake,
so that the foundations of the prison house were shaken; and immediately all
the doors were opened and everyone's chains were unfastened. When the jailer awoke and saw the prison
doors opened, he drew his sword and was about to kill himself, supposing that
the prisoners had escaped. But Paul cried out with a loud voice, saying,
"Do not harm yourself, for we are all here!" And he called for lights
and rushed in, and trembling with fear he fell down before Paul and Silas, and
after he brought them out, he said, "Sirs, what must I do to be
saved?" They said, "Believe
in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household." And
they spoke the word of the Lord to him together with all who were in his house.
And he took them that very hour
of the night and washed their wounds, and immediately he was baptized, he and
all his household.
Acts 16:25-33
Faith confesses and believes in the master
If you confess
with your mouth Jesus as Lord,
and believe in your heart that
God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; for with the heart a person
believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses,
resulting in salvation. For the Scripture says, "WHOEVER BELIEVES IN HIM
WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED." For there is no distinction between Jew and
Greek; for the same Lord is
Lord of all, abounding in riches for all who call on Him; for "WHOEVER
WILL CALL ON THE NAME OF THE LORD WILL BE SAVED."
Romans 10:9-13
Faith doesn't compromise their trust
'I know your
deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot; I wish that you were cold or hot. So
because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of My
mouth. Because you say, "I am rich, and have become wealthy, and have need
of nothing," and you do not know that you are wretched and miserable and
poor and blind and naked, I advise you to buy from Me gold refined by fire so
that you may become rich, and white garments so that you may clothe yourself,
and that the shame of your
nakedness will not be revealed; and eye salve to anoint your eyes so that you
may see. Those whom I love, I reprove and discipline; therefore be zealous and
repent. Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears My voice and
opens the door, I will come in to him and will dine with him, and he with Me.
He who overcomes, I will grant to him to sit down with Me on My throne, as I
also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne.
Revelation 3:15-21
Faith transforms the faithful
While you have the Light, believe
in the Light, so that you may become children of Light.
John 12:36
