Love in deed and truth
We know
that we have passed out of death into life, because we love the brethren. He
who does not love abides in death. Everyone who hates his brother is a
murderer; and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him. We
know love by this, that He laid down His life for us; and we ought to lay down
our lives for the brethren. But whoever has the world's goods, and sees his
brother in need and closes his heart against him, how does the love of God
abide in him? Little children, let us not love with word or with tongue, but in
deed and truth.
I John 3:14-18
Feed them with God's power
And
large crowds came to Him, bringing with them those who were lame, crippled,
blind, mute, and many others, and they laid them down at His feet; and He
healed them. So the crowd marveled as they saw the mute speaking, the crippled
restored, and the lame walking, and the blind seeing; and they glorified the
God of Israel. And Jesus called His disciples to Him, and said, "I feel
compassion for the people, because they have remained with Me now three days
and have nothing to eat; and I do not want to send them away hungry, for they
might faint on the way." The disciples said to Him, "Where would we
get so many loaves in this desolate place to satisfy such a large crowd?"
And Jesus said to them, "How many loaves do you have?" And they said,
"Seven, and a few small fish." And He directed the people to sit down
on the ground; and He took the seven loaves and the fish; and giving thanks, He
broke them and started giving them to the disciples, and the disciples gave
them to the people. And they all ate and were satisfied, and they picked up
what was left over of the broken pieces, seven large baskets full. And those
who ate were four thousand men, besides women and children.
Matthew 15:30-38
Give what God gave you
As you
go, preach, saying, 'The kingdom of heaven is at hand.' Heal the sick, raise
the dead, cleanse the lepers, cast out demons. Freely you received, freely
give.
Matthew 10:7-8
Love your enemies
But I
say to you who hear, love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless
those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. Whoever hits you on the
cheek, offer him the other also; and whoever takes away your coat, do not
withhold your shirt from him either. Give to everyone who asks of you, and
whoever takes away what is yours, do not demand it back. Treat others the same
way you want them to treat you. If you love those who love you, what credit is
that to you? For even sinners love those who love them. If you do good to those
who do good to you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners do the same.
If you lend to those from whom you expect to receive, what credit is that to
you? Even sinners lend to sinners in order to receive back the same amount. But
love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return; and your
reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High; for He Himself is
kind to ungrateful and evil men. Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.
Luke 6:27-36
True faith loves
If,
however, you are fulfilling the royal law according to the Scripture, "YOU
SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF," you are doing well. But if you show
partiality, you are committing sin and are convicted by the law as
transgressors. For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles in one point,
he has become guilty of all. For He who said, "DO NOT COMMIT
ADULTERY," also said, "DO NOT COMMIT MURDER." Now if you do not
commit adultery, but do commit murder, you have become a transgressor of the
law. So speak and so act as those who are to be judged by the law of liberty.
For judgment will be merciless to one who has shown no mercy; mercy triumphs
over judgment. What use is it, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but he
has no works? Can that faith save him? If a brother or sister is without
clothing and in need of daily food, and one of you says to them, "Go in
peace, be warmed and be filled," and yet you do not give them what is
necessary for their body, what use is that? Even so faith, if it has no works,
is dead, being by itself.
James 2:8-17
If we love God, we love others
If
someone says, "I love God," and hates his brother, he is a liar; for
the one who does not love his brother whom he has seen, cannot love God whom he
has not seen. And this commandment we have from Him, that the one who loves God
should love his brother also.
I John 4:20-21
