The innocent killed because of anger against another
So it came
about in the course of time that Cain brought an offering to the LORD of the
fruit of the ground. Abel, on his part also brought of the firstlings of his
flock and of their fat portions. And the LORD had regard for Abel and for his
offering; but for Cain and for his
offering He had no regard. So Cain became very angry and his countenance fell.
Then the LORD said to Cain, "Why are you angry? And why has your countenance
fallen? If you do well, will not your countenance be lifted up? And if you do
not do well, sin is crouching at the door; and its desire is for you, but you
must master it." Cain told Abel his brother. And it came about when they
were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother and killed him.
Then the LORD said to Cain, "Where is Abel your brother?" And he
said, "I do not know. Am I my brother's keeper?" He said, "What
have you done? The voice of your brother's blood is crying to Me from the
ground. Now you are cursed from the ground, which has opened its mouth to
receive your brother's blood from your hand. When you cultivate the ground, it
will no longer yield its strength to you; you will be a vagrant and a wanderer
on the earth."
Genesis 4:3-12
The most severe injustice is the killing of an innocent
Keep far from
a false charge, and do not kill the innocent or the righteous, for I will not
acquit the guilty.
Exodus 23:7
Death of an innocent curses the land
"If a
slain person is found lying in the open country in the land which the LORD your
God gives you to possess, and it is not known who has struck him, then your elders and your judges shall go out
and measure the distance to the cities which are around the slain one. and they
shall answer and say, 'Our hands did not shed this blood, nor did our eyes see
it. Forgive Your people Israel whom You have redeemed, O LORD, and do not place
the guilt of innocent blood in the midst of Your people Israel.' And the
bloodguiltiness shall be forgiven them. So you shall remove the guilt of
innocent blood from your midst, when you do what is right in the eyes of the
LORD.
Deuteronomy 21:1-2, 7-9
God judges rulers who do not support the innocent poor
God takes His
stand in His own congregation; He judges in the midst of the rulers. “How long
will you judge unjustly and show partiality to the wicked? Vindicate the weak
and fatherless; Do justice to the afflicted and destitute. Rescue the weak and
needy; Deliver them out of the hand of the wicked.” They do not know nor do they understand, they
walk about in darkness; all the foundations of the earth are shaken. I said, "You are gods, and all of you
are sons of the Most High. Nevertheless you will die like men and fall like any
one of the princes."
Psalm 82:1-7
Jesus was killed as an innocent
And He began
to speak to them in parables: "A man PLANTED A VINEYARD AND PUT A WALL
AROUND IT, AND DUG A VAT UNDER THE WINE PRESS AND BUILT A TOWER, and rented it
out to vine-growers and went on a journey. At the harvest time he sent a slave
to the vine-growers, in order to receive some of the produce of the vineyard
from the vine-growers. They took him, and beat him and sent him away
empty-handed. Again he sent them another slave, and they wounded him in the
head, and treated him shamefully. And he sent another, and that one they
killed; and so with many others, beating some and killing others. He had one
more to send, a beloved son; he sent him last of all to them, saying, 'They
will respect my son.' But those vine-growers said to one another, 'This is the
heir; come, let us kill him, and the inheritance will be ours!' They took him,
and killed him and threw him out of the vineyard. What will the owner of the
vineyard do? He will come and destroy the vine-growers, and will give the
vineyard to others. Have you not even read this Scripture: 'THE STONE WHICH THE
BUILDERS REJECTED, THIS BECAME THE CHIEF CORNER stone; THIS CAME ABOUT FROM THE
LORD, AND IT IS MARVELOUS IN OUR EYES '?"
Mark 12:1-12
Jesus' followers are killed as innocents
Therefore,
behold, I am sending you prophets and wise men and scribes; some of them you
will kill and crucify, and some of them you will scourge in your synagogues,
and persecute from city to city, so that upon you may fall the guilt of all the
righteous blood shed on earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of
Zechariah, the son of Berechiah, whom you murdered between the temple and the
altar. Truly I say to you, all these things will come upon this generation.
Matthew 23:34-36
Jesus' followers are to love and be hated
For this is
the message which you have heard from the beginning, that we should love one
another; not as Cain, who was of the evil one and slew his brother. And for
what reason did he slay him? Because his deeds were evil, and his brother's
were righteous. Do not be surprised, brethren, if the world hates you. We know
that we have passed out of death into life, because we love the brethren. He
who does not love abides in death. Everyone who hates his brother is a
murderer; and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him. We
know love by this, that He laid down His life for us; and we ought to lay down
our lives for the brethren.
I John 3:11-16
Bring justice to the oppressed
Deliver those
who are being taken away to death, and those who are staggering to slaughter, O
hold them back. If you say, "See,
we did not know this," Does He not consider it who weighs the hearts? And
does He not know it who keeps your soul? And will He not render to man
according to his work?
Proverbs 24:11-12
